Mainsoft SharePoint® Integrator for Lotus Notes® is a client-side plug-in for IBM Lotus Notes that provides instant access to SharePoint document libraries from the Lotus Notes sidebar. Built using its proven .NET-Java
EE interoperability software, Mainsoft
SharePoint Integrator for Lotus Notes provides easy
access to SharePoint document libraries from a sidebar in Notes, extending IT investments in Lotus Notes/Domino installations across technology platforms.
Mainsoft professional services can customize SharePoint - Lotus Notes integrations, delivering business mashups across SharePoint, Notes and Domino®, and .NET and Java™ applications.
In Q4, 2008, Mainsoft will introduce a SharePoint-based email management solution. Notes user will be able to save, share, and archive emails using SharePoint. Email messages will be stored alongside relevant documents and files, providing the context to business decisions, fulfilling compliance requirements, and minimizing the risk of information loss.
Mainsoft will also support the federation of team calendars into Lotus Notes and provide offline access to SharePoint documents, among other features.
Integrating SharePoint and .NET into business mashups
Mainsoft's consulting team can integrate data and business logic from disparate systems - SharePoint, Notes and Domino, Java and .NET applications - into business mashups, or composite applications, which run on the Lotus Notes desktop. End users get a more productive work environment as well as insights into business performance that help them make current decisions. With Mainsoft, existing systems can be used within business processes, without the cost and expense of recoding each one on a common platform.

Incorporate email into enterprise content management
Effective email management has become a significant part of
Enterprise Content Management (ECM), with the majority of corporate data
originating from emails. Deploying and supporting an effective email management
solution requires:
-
Easy email sharing from Notes with classification capacities, with the ability to store emails along with documents in the same SharePoint libraries.
-
Access to the Notes emails stored in SharePoint from both the Notes mail application and from SharePoint Web user interface.
-
Maintaining data coherency, storing all the email data, including headers and attachments, all together.
-
Mapping the major email headers (To, From, Cc, Received, etc.) to SharePoint metadata.
-
Effective search of data within emails and attachments.
-
Ease-of-use that will maximize user acceptance.
-
Minimal IT burden.
Successful email management systems:
-
Promote teamwork. Notes users can share emails easily within their teams, along with related office documents, using SharePoint document libraries, and team sites. The entire email, with its body, attachments, and header will be stored as one document in SharePoint. It can be categorized using SharePoint metadata, easily searched, and easy-to-locate compared to the ever-growing inbox. Emails stored in SharePoint are backed up, audited, and can be archived in a SharePoint record center site.
-
Meet stringent corporate governance requirements. Emails are subject to
the same regulations as paper documents. Organizations are therefore required
to save and protect the records contained in email messages with their full context - headers, body, and attachments - so they can be managed leveraging SharePoint audit logging and record management capacities.
For Lotus Notes/Dominos users, the increasing use of
SharePoint for sharing and archiving project emails is making email management
difficult. Moving emails and attachments from Lotus Notes to SharePoint is not
a straightforward process, leaving valuable metadata behind.
Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator version 1.5 will provide a simple solution that allows emails from Lotus Notes to be captured, managed, and protected by the enterprise content management capabilities of SharePoint, thereby meeting compliance requirements and minimizing business risk of information loss. Email messages will be stored alongside relevant documents and files, providing the context to previous decisions and actions.
Specifically Mainsoft's sidebar application will allow Lotus Notes users to:
-
Drag-and-drop emails from the Lotus Notes mail
application to the selected SharePoint document library in the Notes sidebar.
-
Store the whole email message including its attachments in SharePoint as an .eml file to leverage SharePoint .eml crawling and indexing capacities.
-
View the email stored in SharePoint from Notes - using the mail application - or from the SharePoint Web interface, with internal links to the attachments.
-
Convert message headers into SharePoint metadata.
-
Add custom metadata to the email.
|
Save Notes emails as HTML documents that have internal links to their attachments and are accessible from the SharePoint Web interface.

Calendars
Managing separate Lotus Notes and SharePoint calendars is
time-consuming and prone to errors. There are no safeguards against
double-booking times or missing appointments. Mainsoft will solve these issues by integrating private Lotus Notes 8.5 calendars with SharePoint team calendars, making it easy to coordinate team meetings, synchronize vacation times, and avoid scheduling conflicts caused by calendars that are out-of-sync.
With Mainsoft, Notes users will be able to view appointments stored on
SharePoint inside the Notes calendar application. Calendar appointments will be
color-coded so users know the origin of each appointment.
