SharePoint Federator for WebSphere Portal

Many enterprises that embrace IBM WebSphere®, Portal as their enterprise portal are looking for ways to integrate contents from departmental Microsoft®, SharePoint®, sites. These companies are looking to deliver an integrated end-user experience across software platforms and bring SharePoint sites into compliance with corporate security, governance, and branding standards.

Mainsoft's SharePoint Federator for WebSphere Portal extends WebSphere Portal to serve as a kind of Über-portal that aggregates all enterprise assets, including SharePoint content, such as Office document libraries; Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 and 3.0; and .NET and Java applications, within a scalable environment. Customers can:

  • Provide role-based, secure access to multiple departmental SharePoint sites running on multiple servers with different user directories.

  • Simplify workflows and eliminate the need for users to reenter their credentials in order to access content stored on the SharePoint sites. The SharePoint Federator supports composite applications and enterprise mash-ups across SharePoint data and .NET and Java portlets, offering the flexibility to simplify workflows and enhance customer and business partner relations.

  • Unify branding and navigational models, without having to re-implement these attributes on each SharePoint site.

Mainsoft also enables enterprises to integrate SQL reports within WebSphere Portal, and supports IBM Dashboard drilldowns.

"Mainsoft enabled us to integrate our SQL-based sales reports into WebSphere Portal, which is the basis of our global sales and customer service platform, without having to re-implement them. Going forward, our team can support a single reporting technology, which we expect to save us significant time and resources versus maintaining two separate reporting services."
-- Michael Becker, Director of Organization & Information Systems, Application Management

The SharePoint Federator includes a Software Development Kit enabling .NET developers to create composite applications for WebSphere Portal using SharePoint data and ASP.NET portlets. Visual Studio development teams can use C# or Visual Basic to create custom portlets that run natively on WebSphere Portal.
